People

Batu Pahat city is made up of 37.08% Bumiputeras (mainly Malays), 60.29% Chinese, and 2.54% Indians and other less numerous races.

  The Chinese community in Batu Pahat are mainly descendants of people from southern Fujian and the Chaozhou region of Guangdong province.Therefore, Hokkian or minnan and Teochew are vernacular in this region, then followed by Hakka dialects and significant minority Cantonese and Hainanese dialect.

 

  Batu Pahat Chinese people usually converse in Mandarin due to the close proximity to Singapore and its media reception in the area.

 

  The Chinese dialect spoken by most of the citizens of Batu Pahat is Southern Malaysia Hokkien, which is distinct from Penang Hokkien.

Chinese People

People in Batu Pahat are quite superstitious. They rather follow other people in praying to gods than missing out the blessings (If there really is), because there’s nothing to lose too if they pray. Also, parents in Batu Pahat takes care of their children really well until they are able to stand up on their own, not literally standing up but being independent of their parents. Chinese always go to the Tua Pek Kong Temple to pray for fitness for their whole family. 

People in Batu Pahat are friendly and they always try to serve food as freshly made as possible.  The lady in the picture is making tapioca crackers and they are really delicious!

Bumiputeras Malay People 

  The Bumiputeras community in BatuPahat are mainly people from Malaysia. Therefore, They usually speak Bahasa Malaysia. 

  Batu Pahat Malay people are very friendly and polite . They also help people when they are in trouble. They are also very religious.

This is Adik. He is 6 years old this year. He is an active young kid. Due to his poor family background, he did not attend school and brought out to the port to fish together with his mother and siblings. Although he is small in size and young in age, he was able to catch marine lives half his body size. He is truly a brave, young man.

This is Mr.Safwan. He is currently 27 years old, and he is the successor of his father’s famous Nasi Lemak store in Batu Pahat. He brought his family business to its peak with his friendly attitude and personalities, and nonetheless, their family Nasi Lemak recipe. 

Prayers usually gather and pray together every Friday.
